Well we're one step closer with the Spot Connect. The Connect is a neat little device that pairs a mini-hockey puck sized GPS with your iDevice via Bluetooth and a free app. The device and app combo will geo-tag your location for facebook and twitter updates, and can also (and most importantly) be used during an emergency to send a signal to the nearest emergency services.

Priced at a smooth $170 for the mini-hockey puck, this doesn't include a (minimum) $100 satellite subscription service. The device is also available on android.

The watch also has a feature called Tracklog - or for those familiar with Hansel and Gretel - a trail of breadcrumbs that easily tracks your position when you're in the back country. This feature can easily reorient you if you lose your way.

The fenix has an altimeter, a barometer, and compass which make it comparable to almost every good GPS device The Barometer is a great feature, and along with a temperature display, you can easily predict the future weather conditions so you can stay prepared for the trail ahead. It seems that this watch is one of the better pieces of technology to be deployed in 2012, and we're looking forward to it. But wait, there is more!

To round out the great features, it can wirelessly connect to a multitude of devices including a temperature gauge (better to gauge temp away from your body), a heart rate monitor, bike telemetry, and even your iPhone! TO sum it up, there doesn't seem to be a thing it cannot do. Expected to release in September/October 2012 at a price of $400.

The hybrid technology is new and has many interesting new features.  The most obvious is the two zippered chest pockets, with no hand warmer pockets. Adding pockets in the fleece would only make it heavier with more stitching. I predict we'll be seeing more duel chest pockets on future lightweight pieces as they're more appropriate in base layer, and technical applications.

Either as a base layer or soft shell, this will eliminate a lot of cold weather pieces from your arsenal while also providing a nice cozy alternative for those chilly post surf evenings. Below is stock Patagonia video on their hybrid technology.

For those not familier with kiteboarding; you should know that it takes a lot of skill and practice. In 2008 a kiteboarder was injured when he tried to launch into Tropical Storm Fay just off of Ft. Lauderdale (FL). The video below is the footage from the accident, and luckily, after lots of medical treatments, the kitesurfer survived. Beware this video is gnarly.
